We celebrate the life of our dear colleague and friend, Dr. James Weisfeld-Adams. As many of you know, James passed away on April 2nd, 2018 surrounded by his beloved family after a long battle with renal cancer. We remember his journey with us through residencies in Pediatrics and Medical Genetics. He became an accomplished clinical and metabolic geneticist, serving on the faculties of the Dept. of Genetics and Genomic Sciences at Mount Sinai, New York and of Children’s Hospital, Denver. James was a magnetic person we were all so lucky to know being a dear friend to so many of us, a loving son, husband and father. He remained strong during adversity and memorably recounted his experience with being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis as a young physician, in an article entitled “The Abyss”.
As stated beautifully in his obituary written by his colleagues at the University of Colorado where he remained devoted to his field of study until the very end of his life, "We remember a compassionate, caring individual with a calm, reflective personality who was easy to work with, considerate of his colleagues, and devoted to his family."
We hope to honor his memory by doing what he often expressed his desire to do - educating young people and giving them opportunities to achieve their dreams. We are asking for donations that can be used for lectureships and training opportunities in areas that James was passionate about, particularly metabolic or mitochondrial genetics, multiple sclerosis and cystic fibrosis therapeutics. With the financial support of his colleagues, friends and family, we are hopeful that his legacy will endure for years to come.
