THE STORY:
In a perfect world, all wanted pregnancies would result in the birth of a healthy baby and all children would outlive their parents. Sadly, almost one in four pregnancies ends in a loss. and thousands of children die each year. We all know someone who has had a miscarriage or stillbirth or death of a child. Many have firsthand experience with this devastating loss. Families often grieve in silence, feeling that others don't understand the enormity of their loss.
The Mount Sinai Perinatal and Pediatric Bereavement Program supports families experiencing pregnancy, neonatal and pediatric losses. This program helps families in the New York Metropolitan area through individual and couples bereavement counseling, support groups, memorial services, wellness evenings and other programs throughout the year. Sensitive to the cultural, spiritual and language diversity of those we serve, we provide services in English and Spanish, in person and at a distance for those who are unable to participate in Mount Sinai Hospital based programs. Our services are provided at no charge regardless of the socioeconomic situation of the family. Our goal is to build a model of sustainability so we can expand and reach all who need us. Your support will allow this vital program to continue and grow, offering families a wide array of services to support them through this critical time.
