This year, I have set out to accomplish something I have dreamed of for well over a decade. With the support of TEAM ANDI, I will be running my first marathon, the 2019 TCS New York City Marathon.
TEAM ANDI was founded by Amy Knepper, the mother of Andi, an adorable, energetic girl who goes to school with Aiden. Andi was born over 10 weeks early and weighed just 2 pounds. Andi lived at Mount Sinai in the NICU for 96 days. It was an extremely difficult, emotional and stressful time for Amy and her family. Amy credits the NICU staff at Mount Sinai for bringing Andi to life. I was blessed with full term babies and fairly stress-free deliveries, but Amy's story tugged at my heart. I can only imagine how scary and heartbreaking it must feel to leave the hospital without your new baby. I know how vital the hospital and staff are to providing care and support in every way. Every day, babies are born dangerously early and without the full function of their organs. The NICU staff works tirelessly to save and support these babies, so that they too can thrive just as Amy's daughter Andi has.
Amy also happens to be a seasoned marathon runner, and has finished over 20 marathons. Amy took her passion for running and combined it with her gratitude for Mount Sinai's NICU and created TEAM ANDI. The day Amy shared her story with me, I knew I wanted to run the marathon this year to support this important cause. If the funds I raise can help even one newborn baby, I will consider this journey a success no matter how fast or slow I make it to the finish line.
I am so grateful for any support that you can give to this worthy cause and to me as I run 26.2 miles and cross the finish line on November 3, 2019. Thank you in advance for your support!
