Join Dr. Elliot Rayfield and other Alums in supporting the renaming of the Mount Sinai Alumni Award for Achievement in Medical Education in honor of Jeffrey T. Laitman, PhD, a Distinguished Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai for over 43 years. The Alumni Award for Achievement in Medical Education is given to an individual who has made significant contributions to medical education.
Dr. Laitman is internationally regarded in anatomy and otolaryngology for his scientific advances and his exceptional teaching and has received recognition worldwide for his accomplishments. His medical and graduate students denote him as a devoted and caring teacher and mentor, playing an integral role for many during their years at Mount Sinai and throughout their career paths. Dr. Laitman’s tireless efforts to enhance the biomedical world has been acknowledged by frequently being chosen to lead international societies, including being elected President of the American Association for Anatomy; the Association of Anatomy, Cell Biology and Neurobiology Chairs; and being one of the very few non-graduates of Mount Sinai to be chosen President of our Alumni Association.
For Dr. Laitman, Mount Sinai has been his home, one that he has worked proudly to advance and promote. He attended Brooklyn College as an undergraduate, in part to work at his brother-in-law’s nearby drugstore to help support his family. He attended graduate school at Yale University, where he pursued anatomy and human evolution, beginning his journey to be an educator. After graduating from Yale in 1977, Dr. Laitman joined the faculty at Mount Sinai.
Consider joining with faculty and friends in supporting the renaming of the Mount Sinai Alumni Award for Achievement in Medical Education in honor of long-time friend and mentor to his students, Dr. Jeffery Laitman.
