On November 19th 2020, Christopher L. Cedeño passed after 7 years of battling Urachal Bladder Cancer. Chris underwent countless hours of chemotherapy, radiation, surgeries, and other forms of treatment. Urachal Bladder Cancer is a rare and aggressive form of bladder cancer that arises from the urachus, a vestigial musculofibrous band that extends from the dome of the bladder to the umbulicus. It often presents itself at an advanced stage and accounts for only 0.5% of all bladder cancers. His care at Mt. Sinai under the supervision of Dr. Galsky and his oncology team was exceptional. Chris participated in research studies and felt that that was his contribution to modern medicine.
During his time undergoing treatment, Chris continued to be a father and help raise his son Matthias, he was able to be a partner to Nancy, his devoted wife in their everyday lives. He continued to pursue his passion in culinary arts as a chef. He was fondly known as Chef Chris. Chris continued to LIVE. The treatments and trials that he participated in allowed him to live his best life. It wasn't always light and cheery. There were really hard days of feeling weak, unable to get out of bed and pain, but his 7 years with Mt. Sinai and Dr. Galsky's team gave him hope and was a blessing.
Our family decided to start a fundraiser in honor of our beloved Chris with the hope that further research can help understand this rare disease and lead to advances in diagnosis and treatment.
We are raising money to support the Mount Sinai Health System. Mount Sinai is reimagining what is possible and redefining the practice of modern medicine, both in our local community and across the world. Please take a moment and consider contributing to such an important and under researched disease.
The Mount Sinai Health System relies on community support to help make possible our essential work of outstanding clinical care, innovative research initiatives and more.
Thank you in advance for your support of our fundraiser.
