Hi I’m Julia! I’m thrilled to be running the 2024 NYC Marathon in support of Team IBDKids. I am a chief resident at Mount Sinai in my final year of surgical residency. Team IBDKids is a special cause to me. Throughout my four years at Sinai, I have taken care of many patients with inflammatory bowel disease who have surgical needs, ranging from very small children to adults.
The devastating effects of IBD has enormous, lasting impact on their health and everyday life. Despite this patients with IBD show incredible resilience and fortitude. While IBD care has seen significant advancements, as part of the medical community that cares for IBD patients, I maintain great optimism that we will continue to improve the lives and health of all our IBD patients.
Running the 2024 NYC Marathon during my final year of surgical residency is a symbolic race for me. Surgical residency has been challenging and running has become my outlet - a place of solace, reflection and balance. In addition to the other members of Team IBDKids, I will be fulfilling a dream of mine; running a marathon with my lifelong inspiration, my mom; ultrarunner extraordinaire with more than 60 marathons under her belt. While she has run marathons all over the world, she has never run the NYC Marathon, where the crowd energy is unmatched! I look forward to stepping on the start line November 3rd with her and Team IBDKids.
