My beloved mother was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2015. She fought relentlessly for six years. I can't thank enough Mount Sinai Ruttenberg Cancer Institute. My mother was treated with the utmost care from doctors to nurse. One of my mother's last wishes was to make known to her medical team her gratitud for all of them.
My mother was my friend, my mentor, my guide, my everything. Esterina, as our family and close friends lovingly called her, is the light in my world and a light to many others. As Matriarch of our family and our business, her loss creates a void that can never be filled. My mother was an inspiring, strong and resilient woman.
Her love of the kitchen bordered on legendary status, and nothing made her as happy as feeding those around her. Cooking and her generosity towards people was a passion. She would spend days on end enjoying cooking shows, reading recipes and countless hours over the stove perfecting her own creations. Her creativity in her kitchen was always a labor of love that we all looked forward to and thoroughly enjoyed.
Our mother taught us many lessons, but the ones that mean the most to us all are the importance of family, loyalty and generosity; her loving words that inspired us even at the very end.
Her incalculable love for her grandchildren was a driving force that gave her strength in battling her illness for as long as she did. All six grandchildren were the light of her life and nothing brought her more joy and serenity than caring for them.
She was loved by everyone but more importantly I know she loved genuinely and more than that, she was devoted and loyal.
She battled illness with grace, and while she finally succumbed, she won at life. We will all miss her warmth and wonderful sense of humor. We will miss her beautiful spirit, leadership and her unconditional love. I pray that our memories of her brilliance will sustain us. Mom we will continue and honor your legacy, remember you and love you forever.
I am raising money to support the Mount Sinai Health System. Mount Sinai is reimagining what is possible and redefining the practice of modern medicine, both in our local community and across the world.
Your gift will support Mount Sinai’s promising research efforts through its Multiple Myeloma Research Fund, offering new hope for multiple myeloma patients everywhere. Thank you for considering a gift.
For the 30,000 people in the United States who are affected by multiple myeloma each year, treatment resistance and relapse remain mostly inevitable. Mount Sinai’s physicians and scientists are committed to changing this reality.
Mount Sinai’s Multiple Myeloma Program is a leader in integrating patient care and translational research. Serving more than 500 new patients each year, it is the largest multiple myeloma center in New York City, and one of the largest in the country. In addition to providing care, Mount Sinai’s physician-scientists conduct laboratory research in cancer genetics, immunology, and cell biology that leads to new treatment approaches. The program runs the most clinical trials of any multiple myeloma program in the United States.
The Mount Sinai Health System relies on community support to help make possible our essential work of outstanding clinical care, innovative research initiatives and more. Thank you in advance for your support of my fundraiser.
