I'm excited (and a bit nervous) to share that I will be running the New York City Marathon with Team Andi on Sunday, November 5th. It's been 20+ years since my last marathon, and I've been inspired by a college friend, the founder of Team Andi, Amy Knepper.
Amy's daughter Andi, was born 10 weeks early weighing just 2 lbs and spent 3 months in the NICU at Mount Sinai Hospital. Grateful for the incredible care Andi received and heartbroken to have to leave Andi at the hospital each night, Amy founded Team Andi in 2014. Team Andi has been an Official Charity Partner of the TCS NYC Marathon for the past 10 years.
Our goal is to enable families to be together during a time of challenge and uncertainty. From first feedings, baths and diaper changes, to the silly songs we make up to soothe our children to sleep...our mission is to provide private space in the NICU for families to bond with their newborns.
For so many years as a full time working mom, I chose to focus 100% on my family and career, leaving little time and energy for anything else. Now that my children are grown and need me in different ways, I want to give back and Team Andi's mission is energizing. My legs still work, my mind is focused (some might say stubborn), my heart is open, and with your support I will cross the finish line in November knowing that together we have made a difference.
Thank you for your support,
Tonda
